Sin and Salvation

The only reason I talk to people about my faith is I don’t want anyone to spend eternity without God.

Let me ask you this; in your lifetime have you ever:

Lied?

Lusted?

Stolen?

Hurt someone?

Used the Lord’s name in Vein?

Considered anything more important than God?

So by your own admission, you’re a:

Lying, fornicating, thief, blasphemer, idolater…

You might say, well I don’t believe in God.  I’d say, do you believe in Microsoft, Google, IBM, etc.?  You say sure, and I say if you’ve never been there, then how?  Because you see evidence, like software, as proof of their existence.  In the same way we see evidence all around us of God.  Even Satan and the demons believe in God.  The issue is not so much belief, as it is obedience.

In the times we all call B.C. (Before Christ), the only way people could get right with God was by the sacrifice of animals.  That seems harsh to us today, because in A.D. (After the Death and resurrection of Christ) we don’t need to do that.  What’s changed?  If a jury found a person guilty, even though we might think they are a nice person, the judge would still have to give them a penalty.  The bible says that the wages of sin are death.  And since the bible contains the moral code for the universe (10 commandments, etc), we know each of us deserves that same penalty.

But, God did something amazing.  He sent his own Son to be with us.  Jesus was born of a virgin, and is the only person in history to walk completely blameless.  He modeled how to live.  Some say he was a nice guy.  Jesus said that the only way to come to the Father was through him.  No, Jesus wasn’t a nice guy.  He was both fully man and God, or he was nuts; nothing in-between.  But that isn’t the coolest part.  The best part is that the world hated Jesus and murdered him.  And when they did, Jesus took all the sins, hurt, sickness, and pain upon Himself.  But that wasn’t the end; God raised him from death so that we could all be saved through Jesus Christ.  So if we will:

  1. Repent of our sins and turn from our wicked ways
  2. Ask Jesus to be the new captain of our ship and put our hope and trust in Him
  3. We are saved!!

I’m not yelling in a dark room at the darkness.  I’m turning on the Light.
